Messenger: Google’s official instant messaging app
Messenger is Google's official instant messaging app, designed to replace older apps for managing text messages.
Unlike Hangouts, the new Messenger only handles traditional text messages (SMS). So this doesn't include chats sent via Google Instant Messenger, just daily text messages.
Although it only works with text messages, Messenger includes some new and interesting features. For example, you can block any number directly from the app so you don't receive text messages from them again. Likewise, you can set a time period when you don't want to receive any text messages.
The most significant change is that, unlike previous SMS management applications, Messenger has a simpler and more elegant interface. You can even use it to send photos and videos directly to your contacts.
Messenger is a great tool for managing messages and comes with Google’s quality certification, which is reassuring when managing something as sensitive as text messages.
