In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer, striving for peace. Your journey offers significant story choices, and you'll frequently have companions fighting alongside you. These companions are powerful allies who follow you across the battlefield, and you can occasionally take direct control. Often, playing as a companion proves more effective than the Wanderer, even with upgrades. Here's how to switch:

Switching to a companion is only possible during battles where you have one. Before a battle, the war council menu offers your companion as a final option; you can choose to fight alone, but you can't select a specific companion beforehand. Once the battle starts, your companion's health bar appears below yours in the bottom right corner.

Beneath their health bar is a blue meter, similar to your Musou gauge. This fills as you fight, accelerating with actions like parrying, perfect dodging, assaulting officers, and using Weapon Arts. Most combat actions contribute, though at a slower rate.

A "Change Character" button appears next to the companion's blue meter once it's full. Press and hold this button for a second to switch. This is the View button on Xbox, C on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.

Switching characters mid-battle is strategically advantageous, as companions are exceptionally powerful. Control typically lasts about a minute; the blue meter slowly depletes, indicating the remaining time. Your new character starts with full Bravery and access to highly effective combat arts.

The character switch initiates with a powerful attack, so aim carefully. Your companion also retains their own filled Musou and health bars, allowing immediate use of their special attack to decimate enemies.
