The iconic Master Chief, star of the Halo franchise and a popular Fortnite skin, recently returned to the item shop after a two-year hiatus, much to the delight of fans. However, this joyous reunion hit a snag.
Initially, a special Matte Black style for the skin was offered exclusively to players using Xbox Series S|X consoles. For a considerable period, Epic Games advertised this style as perpetually obtainable. The abrupt announcement of its removal, therefore, caused significant backlash.
Some players even considered legal action, threatening a class-action lawsuit, believing the change violated certain terms and conditions. Fortunately, Epic Games quickly reversed course within 24 hours. The Matte Black style is now available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single match on an Xbox Series S|X.
This reversal appears to be the most prudent decision, especially given the holiday season. Spoiling the festive cheer with such controversies would have been unwise.
