Hyper Light Breaker boasts a variety of resources, but Golden Rations stand out as the rarest and most crucial for significant upgrades. The game offers little guidance on resource acquisition, leaving players to discover their uses through gameplay. This guide clarifies how to reliably obtain Golden Rations.
Where to Get Golden Rations
Currently, two primary methods exist for acquiring Golden Rations in the early access version: exploration and cycle resets. During your runs, keep an eye out for chest icons on the map. These chests often contain resources for purchases or upgrades, and sometimes, Golden Rations. A Golden Ration icon above a chest indicates its contents.
Areas containing Prisms (marked by golden diamond icons) frequently have nearby chests containing Golden Rations.
Alternatively, cycle resets offer another avenue. A cycle represents each Overgrowth instance, resetting when your revives (Rez count) reach zero. Upon depleting your revives, you can choose to retry the map (at a resource cost) or fully reset the cycle at the Cursed Outpost. Successful cycle resets yield a score; achieving a high enough rank rewards you with Golden Rations.
What are Golden Rations For?
Golden Rations are essential for progression in Hyper Light Breaker, primarily used to unlock permanent upgrades at your home base. These upgrades enhance your characters or unlock new vendor services.
Furthermore, Golden Rations unlock Sycoms—items defining your Breaker's stats and passive abilities, significantly impacting their playstyle.
Upon obtaining your first Golden Ration, prioritizing the extra medkit upgrade from Pherus Bit is highly recommended. This upgrade significantly improves survivability, mitigating the game's harsh penalty for combat errors.
Note that while resources are retained upon death, equipped weapons, amps, and perks sustain damage (one pip), potentially leading to permanent loss.
