Keanu Reeves has shared an exciting update on the long-awaited sequel to the cult classic film, Constantine. As John Constantine, the occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, Reeves captured audiences in the 2005 adaptation. Now, nearly two decades later, fans' hopes for a sequel have been reignited as Reeves confirms that Constantine 2 is inching closer to reality.

In a recent interview with Inverse, Reeves disclosed that after over a decade of efforts, they have successfully pitched a story to DC Studios. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay,'" Reeves stated. This approval marks a significant step forward, as the team now moves to the scriptwriting phase.

While this development is promising, it's important to note that the project is not yet guaranteed. DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran have not officially confirmed Constantine 2 as part of the rebooted DCU. Therefore, the sequel remains on the edge of becoming a reality.

Reeves also teased that should Constantine 2 come to fruition, it will be set in the same universe as the original film. He humorously added, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."

This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who in September mentioned to ComicBook that a script for Constantine 2 was already in his inbox. However, he expressed his apprehension about reading it, driven by his desire for the script to be exceptional. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," di Bonaventura said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
