Deadlock has just announced a groundbreaking update that's set to shake up the game's landscape, transitioning from four lanes to a streamlined three-lane map. Dive into the details of this major shift and discover what's new in Deadlock's latest update.
In a significant move, Deadlock's latest major update transforms the game's four lanes into three, simplifying the map structure and enhancing other game features. On February 26, 2025, Valve shared comprehensive details about this map rework and other mechanical adjustments via a Steam post.
The redesign not only reduces the lanes from four to three but also introduces "a large range of accompanying map-wide changes regarding visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, mid boss, etc." Deadlock, known for its unique third-person perspective in the MOBA genre, aims to streamline gameplay with this change, which previously added complexity with a fourth lane.
Moreover, the update brings changes to how players farm enemy troopers. Now, players won't need to last-hit enemies to summon Soul Orbs, making early laning phases more accessible. The patch notes also promise improvements in the game's netcode and client performance, ensuring a smoother gaming experience.
This update could be the catalyst Deadlock needs to reignite player interest. Following a significant surge in active players in September 2024, reaching an all-time peak of 171,490, the game experienced a 90% drop in player count, with only about 17,000 players active in the last month.
Valve Developer Yoshi shared insights on Deadlock's Discord server in January 2025, explaining the shift in the update schedule. He stated, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."
Currently, Deadlock is in active development and playtesting phases, accessible only through friend invites. No official release date has been announced yet. For more updates and information about Deadlock, be sure to visit our dedicated Deadlock page.
