In the vast world of Minecraft, travel takes many forms, but none quite as exhilarating as gliding with Elytra. Elytra are unique, rare items that allow players to glide through the air, significantly speeding up exploration, especially when combined with fireworks. They look like wings when deployed, and resemble a cloak when folded. While naturally found only in the End after defeating the Ender Dragon, within ships near End Cities, there are alternative ways to obtain them in other game modes.
Before venturing to the End, thorough preparation is crucial. Diamond or Netherite armor, ideally enchanted for protection, is essential. A powerful sword and bow (enchantments like Infinity or Power are highly recommended) are vital for dragon combat. Stock up on arrows or crossbow bolts, and consider using fireworks for ranged attacks. Potions of regeneration, strength, and slow falling provide significant advantages. Golden apples offer crucial emergency healing, and blocks aid in reaching End Crystals. A carved pumpkin protects against Endermen aggression.
Activating the End portal requires 12 Eyes of Ender. Each Eye requires Blaze Powder (from Blaze Rods dropped by Blazes in Nether Fortresses) and an Ender Pearl (dropped by Endermen). Gathering Ender Pearls can be challenging due to Endermen's unpredictable spawning.
Use Eyes of Ender to locate the Stronghold. Throw an Eye; it will fly towards the Stronghold, indicating its general direction. Once located, navigate the Stronghold's perilous passages, and activate the End portal with Eyes of Ender.
Destroy the End Crystals first to prevent the Ender Dragon's health regeneration. Then, engage the dragon using a bow and arrow from a distance or a sword in close combat.
After defeating the dragon, travel through the End Gateway. Locate an End City and search for a ship. Inside, an Item Frame holds the Elytra. Beware of Shulkers!
In Creative Mode, simply open your inventory (press "E"), search for "Elytra," and drag them into your inventory.
