The Minecraft Movie has shattered box office records, surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie to claim the title of the biggest domestic debut for a video game adaptation. Starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, who also appeared in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the film raked in an impressive $157 million in North America alone. This eclipses the $146 million that The Super Mario Bros. Movie earned during its opening weekend in April 2023, though it still holds the record as the highest-grossing video game adaptation to date.

Globally, A Minecraft Movie added another $144 million at the international box office, culminating in a staggering worldwide opening weekend total of $301 million. With a production budget of $150 million, not including marketing expenses, the film could already be profitable for Warner Bros.

Inspired by Mojang's Minecraft, the best-selling video game ever, and now under Microsoft's umbrella, the film leverages the enduring popularity of the sandbox game. To further engage fans, the game now features movie tie-in DLC, enhancing the launch of the film.

IGN's review of A Minecraft Movie awarded it a score of 6/10. We noted that "Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess infuses A Minecraft Movie with a uniquely humorous and engaging take on its kid-friendly adventure, particularly in the more subdued first half."

If you've watched the movie, don't miss IGN's detailed explanation of A Minecraft Movie's Ending and Post-Credits Scene, featuring insights from Director Jared Hess and Minecraft's Torfi Frans Ólafsson.

In other news, Disney's live-action Snow White is facing potential disaster at the box office. It has earned $168.4 million globally, with $77.5 million from domestic markets and $90.9 million internationally. Given its hefty $250 million production budget, achieving a comeback akin to Mufasa: The Lion King might be out of reach.
