The saga of MultiVersus deserves a chapter in gaming history, a cautionary tale alongside other industry giants that have fallen. Yet, the game's story isn't quite over. Developers have announced the final two characters gracing the roster: Lola Bunny and Aquaman.
This announcement arrives amidst a swell of fan frustration, some escalating to threats against the development team. MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh addressed this directly in a lengthy message, pleading with players to refrain from targeting the team with threats.
Huynh apologized to fans whose desired characters didn't make it into the game, expressing hope they'll still enjoy the content of the final Season 5. He clarified that character selection is a complex process with numerous influencing factors, and his personal control over these decisions was less than some fans perceived.
Following the shutdown announcement, some players expressed anger over their inability to spend in-game tokens on new characters—a promised benefit for purchasers of the $100 edition. This unfulfilled promise may have contributed to the threats directed at the developers.
