CD Projekt Red recently confirmed that The Witcher 4 will feature entirely new regions and monsters, as revealed in an interview with Gamertag Radio.
Following the Game Awards 2024, a conversation between Gamertag Radio co-host Parris, The Witcher 4 director Sebastian Kalemba, and executive producer Gosia Mitręga (December 14, 2024) shed light on the game's upcoming content. The team confirmed the introduction of fresh environments and formidable new monsters.
While Ciri follows in Geralt's footsteps, her journey will lead players to unexplored areas of the Continent. Kalemba identified the village shown in the trailer as "Stromford," a place where villagers engage in a disturbing ritual of sacrificing young girls to appease their "god."
This "god," as revealed by Kalemba, is a creature named "Bauk," inspired by Serbian mythology. He described Bauk as a "tricky bastard," a fearsome entity that instills terror in its victims. Beyond Bauk, players can anticipate encountering a diverse range of new monsters.
Kalemba expressed his enthusiasm for the new locations and monsters but remained tight-lipped about specifics, teasing players with the promise of "something completely new" on the Continent.
A subsequent Skill UP interview (December 15, 2024) confirmed that The Witcher 4's map will be roughly comparable in size to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, it suggests Ciri's adventures will extend beyond Geralt's explored territories.
The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted CD Projekt Red's commitment to enhancing NPC interactions. Parris noted the reused character models in The Witcher 3, contrasting them with the apparent diversity in The Witcher 4's trailer. Kalemba confirmed their focus on creating unique lives and stories for "every single NPC," emphasizing the impact of close-knit communities like Stromford on NPC interactions with Ciri and other characters.
The team is also refining NPC models, focusing on improved visuals, behaviors, and facial expressions to deliver a more immersive experience.
While details are scarce, the improvements to NPC interactions promise a richer and more engaging gameplay experience. For more information on The Witcher 4, check out our dedicated article!
