Genki at CES 2025: A Closer Look at the Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup

Genki, renowned for its handheld gaming accessories, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing key design details and confirming earlier speculation. This detailed replica, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, showcased several significant changes.

The mockup highlighted a larger form factor, approaching the size of Valve's Steam Deck. Key features included seemingly magnetic Joy-Cons, a second USB-C port, and an intriguing new "C" button of unknown function.

Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge. He explained that the SL and SR buttons utilize magnets, released via a pin mechanism within each Joy-Con. Despite this change from the original Switch's sliding rails, the Joy-Cons remain securely attached during gameplay.

More Switch 2 Details from Genki:

Further revelations from Genki include optical sensors integrated into the Joy-Con mounting channels. This suggests potential functionality as a mouse, a theory supported by recently leaked Switch 2 images showing similar sensors.

Interestingly, while the Switch 2's increased dimensions would allow it to physically fit into the existing Switch dock, design differences prevent compatibility.

The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remains a mystery, even to Genki.
