The Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are set to launch on January 30th, but reports from retailers and manufacturers suggest significant shortages are likely. With consumers already lining up outside stores, these high-end GPUs, priced at $1,999 and $999 respectively, are generating immense hype.

MSI, a major manufacturer, attributes the initial scarcity to the Lunar New Year, anticipating stock levels to improve in February. Retailers like Overclockers UK have reported receiving only a handful of RTX 5090 units, with similarly low stock for the RTX 5080. PowerGPU in the US echoed these concerns, predicting extremely limited availability for the RTX 5090 launch.

In response to growing concerns, Nvidia issued a statement acknowledging significant demand and anticipating potential stock-outs. The company assures consumers that they and their partners are working to increase retail shipments daily.

Despite Nvidia's statement, the limited supply is already fueling scalping activity. eBay listings show pre-orders for the RTX 5090 at drastically inflated prices—one Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 is listed for $5,750, a 187% markup.

Adding to Nvidia's challenges, the company's share price dropped significantly following the announcement of DeepSeek, a Chinese AI model trained at a fraction of the cost of Nvidia's solutions, potentially impacting the demand for Nvidia's datacenter GPUs.
