Resident Evil 4 Remake Surpasses 9 Million Copies Sold: Capcom Celebrates Milestone

Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake has achieved phenomenal success, recently surpassing 9 million copies sold since its March 2023 launch. This milestone follows the game's earlier achievement of 8 million sales, a testament to its popularity. The surge in sales is likely attributed to the February 2023 release of the Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition and a subsequent iOS release late in 2023.

The remake, a reimagining of the 2005 classic, follows Leon S. Kennedy's mission to rescue the President's daughter, Ashley Graham, from a sinister cult. This iteration significantly shifted the gameplay towards action, marking a departure from the series' survival horror origins.

CapcomDev1's Twitter account commemorated the achievement with celebratory artwork featuring beloved characters like Ada, Krauser, and Saddler enjoying a game of bingo. A recent update further enhanced the PS5 Pro experience.

A Record-Breaking Success

According to Alex Aniel, author of the fan book Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4's sales are the fastest in the franchise's history. This is particularly impressive when compared to Resident Evil Village, which reached only 500,000 copies sold in its eighth quarter.

Looking Ahead to Future Capcom Releases

The overwhelming success of Resident Evil 4 has fueled anticipation for Capcom's next projects. Many fans eagerly await a Resident Evil 5 remake, a possibility given the relatively short timeframe (just over a year) between the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. However, other titles like Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, both significant to the overarching storyline, are also ripe for a modern update. Of course, the announcement of Resident Evil 9 would undoubtedly be met with enthusiastic reception.
