Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090: 32GB GDDR7 Memory and 575W Power Draw
Leaked specifications reveal Nvidia's upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card will boast a massive 32GB of GDDR7 video memory – double that of the anticipated RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti. However, this impressive power comes at a cost: a substantial 575W power draw.
The RTX 5090, codenamed Blackwell, will be officially unveiled alongside the rest of the RTX 50 series at Nvidia's CES 2025 keynote on January 6th. This next-generation lineup arrives over two years after the RTX 40 series launch, bringing features like DLSS upscaling, ray tracing, and PCIe 5.0 support (on compatible motherboards). The RTX 50 series will replace the RTX 40 series (some models of which, like the RTX 4090D and RTX 4070, have already been discontinued). It will directly compete with AMD's Radeon RX 9000 series and Intel's Battlemage GPUs.
Inno3D's iChill X3 RTX 5090: A Glimpse at the Flagship
Ahead of the official reveal, Inno3D, an Nvidia AIB partner, showcased its version of the RTX 5090: the iChill X3. This three-fan card occupies more than three expansion slots. Its packaging confirmed the 32GB GDDR7 memory and the hefty 575W power requirement – a significant jump from the RTX 4090's 450W.
High-End Performance, High-End Price
The RTX 50 series will use a 16-pin power connector, though adapters will be available. While the RTX 5090's specifications are undeniably impressive, the performance comes at a premium. Industry speculation suggests an MSRP starting at $1,999 or higher. Nvidia has yet to officially confirm pricing.
The full RTX 50 series, including the RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti, will be revealed at Nvidia's CES presentation on January 6th. The reaction from consumers to this new generation of graphics cards remains to be seen.
