Supercell's Squad Busters Wins Apple's 2024 iPad Game of the Year Award
Despite a rocky launch, Supercell's Squad Busters has achieved remarkable success, culminating in a prestigious award. The game has been named the 2024 Apple Award winner for iPad Game of the Year, joining other notable winners like Balatro+ (Apple Arcade Game of the Year) and AFK Journey (iPhone Game of the Year).
Squad Busters' initial launch was underwhelming, raising eyebrows given Supercell's track record. The question on many minds was how a company known for billion-dollar hits could release a seemingly subpar game.
However, the game's subsequent rise to prominence suggests the initial issues weren't related to the game's core mechanics. Many found the blend of battle royale and MOBA elements enjoyable. The lukewarm reception at launch might have been due to player fatigue with the numerous individual Supercell IPs, making a combined IP less appealing.
This Apple Award serves as a significant validation of Supercell's persistence and the game's inherent quality. While the debate surrounding its initial launch may continue, this accolade provides well-deserved recognition for the team's efforts.
