Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation
Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance, where she revealed her involvement in a new Star Wars film. This parallel has led fans to anticipate similar news from Isaac.
Isaac's relationship with the Star Wars franchise has been complex. Following the conclusion of the Sequel Trilogy in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, his public stance on returning has evolved. While initially expressing reluctance, stating in 2020 that he'd only return for "another house or something," he later shifted to a more open position, telling Variety in 2022 that he had "no real feeling one way or another."
His past criticisms of Disney, including their rejection of his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (played by John Boyega), have also fueled the ongoing discussion. Boyega, who also expressed past negativity towards Disney and the franchise, has similarly hinted at openness to future roles.
The anticipation centers around a potential reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio in the upcoming Rey film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. Ridley has already voiced her support for Boyega's return, making Poe's inclusion a logical next step.
However, the film's release remains uncertain due to Disney's repeated delays of various Star Wars projects. Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the Rey film's earliest projected release date is now December 17, 2027. While Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer some clarity, fans may face a considerable wait for definitive answers.
