Access your relationship status with each NPC by opening your menu and selecting the heart tab. This displays your friendship level (hearts) with each villager. Reaching certain heart levels unlocks special events, mail rewards, and unique dialogue. However, the heart display only partially reveals the intricacies of friendship gain.
Understanding Friendship Points
Each heart represents 250 friendship points. Nearly every interaction—talking, gifting, etc.—affects your friendship score. Positive actions earn points, while neglect or negative actions decrease it.
Accelerating Friendship Growth
The "Friendship 101" book provides a permanent 10% boost to friendship point gains. This book is the ninth prize from the Prize Machine in the Mayor's Mansion or has a small chance (9%) of appearing in the Bookseller's inventory from Year 3 onward. It costs 20,000g. Note: this bonus doesn't affect friendship point losses.
Friendship points are earned or lost through various interactions.
Daily Interactions
Gifting
Gifts given on the Feast of the Winter Star receive a 5x point multiplier, while birthday gifts are worth 8x the usual points. This also applies to negative point values.
The Exceptional Stardrop Tea
Stardrop Tea () is a universally loved gift, granting +250 points (one heart). This triples on birthdays and the Feast of the Winter Star. It can be obtained from the Prize Machine, Golden Fishing Chests, the Helper's Bundle, or from the Raccoon for completing higher-level requests.
Movie Night Magic
Once unlocked, the movie theater offers opportunities to boost friendship. Present a Movie Ticket (1000g) and a concession. Point values vary based on movie and snack choices:
Dialogue and Heart Events
Conversations can yield +10 to +50 points depending on your responses. Heart Events offer even greater potential (+/-200 points). Choosing thoughtful, kind responses maximizes friendship gains.
By mastering these strategies, you can cultivate fulfilling relationships in Stardew Valley, enriching your gameplay experience.
