Nintendo's 2021 remakes of the Famicom Detective Club games were a revelation. Now, in 2024, Emio – The Smiling Man arrives as a stunning new entry, both physically and digitally. It's a lavishly produced title, a true sequel that delivers a shockingly good and impactful conclusion, justifying its M rating. Unexpectedly, it's a top contender for my game of the year. VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action ($14.99)

A perennial favorite, VA-11 Hall-A shines with its compelling narrative, memorable soundtrack, striking visuals, and exceptional characters. Its Switch port is excellent, making it a must-play for everyone, regardless of their preference for point-and-click adventures. Mix drinks, change lives—it's that simple.

The House in Fata Morgana: Dreams of the Revenants Edition ($39.99)

The definitive edition of The House in Fata Morgana is a storytelling masterpiece. This pure visual novel, enhanced with additional content, is at its best on the Switch. Prepare for a gothic horror experience that will linger long after the credits roll, accompanied by a truly unforgettable soundtrack.

Coffee Talk Episode 1+2 ($12.99 + $14.99)

While sold separately digitally and physically, the Coffee Talk games are bundled in North America. Though not reaching the same heights as VA-11 Hall-A, they offer a relaxing and charming experience with a captivating story, appealing pixel art, and a delightful soundtrack. Perfect for coffee lovers and those who appreciate engaging characters.

Type-Moon's Visual Novels: Tsukihime, Fate/stay night, and Mahoyo (Variable)

This entry encompasses three essential Type-Moon visual novels: Tsukihime, Fate/stay night Remastered, and Mahoyo. All are lengthy but rewarding. Fate/stay night is a great starting point for visual novel newcomers, while the Tsukihime remake is highly recommended. Mahoyo follows as a strong third entry.

Steins;Gate Series (Variable)

Spike Chunsoft's Steins;Gate series, particularly Steins;Gate Elite, is crucial for introducing newcomers to the genre. While the original is hoped for, Elite is a fantastic entry point for anime fans seeking a compelling visual novel. Playing other entries is best after experiencing Elite.

AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES and nirvanA Initiative (Variable)

AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES and its sequel are exceptional adventure games. The collaboration between Zero Escape creator Kotaro Uchikoshi and No More Heroes artist Yusuke Kozaki results in a high-quality experience with compelling storytelling, music, and characters. A worthy alternative to the absent Zero Escape series on Switch.

NEEDY STREAMER OVERLOAD ($19.99)

This adventure game with multiple endings shifts between unsettling horror and heartwarming moments, following a young streamer's life. Its unpredictable nature and memorable moments make it a standout title.

Ace Attorney Series (Variable)

Capcom has brought the entire Ace Attorney series to Switch. With multiple entries available, newcomers might find The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles the best starting point. The entire series is now accessible on a single handheld.

Spirit Hunter: Death Mark, NG, and Death Mark II (Variable)

The Spirit Hunter trilogy blends horror adventure and visual novel elements with a striking art style. While graphically intense, its compelling stories and excellent localization make it a memorable experience.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim ($59.99)

While not a pure adventure game, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim combines real-time strategy battles with a captivating narrative. This sci-fi masterpiece is a must-play, best experienced on the Switch's OLED screen.
