Wukong Sun Unleashes on Nintendo Switch

A new game, Wukong Sun: Black Legend, has emerged, raising concerns due to its striking similarities to the popular title, Black Myth: Wukong. While drawing inspiration is common in game development, Wukong Sun appears to go beyond inspiration, exhibiting elements that strongly resemble direct copies from Game Science's acclaimed work. This is particularly evident in the visual style, the protagonist wielding a staff, and the plot description, all echoing Black Myth: Wukong's core features.

Currently available for pre-order on the US eShop, the future of Wukong Sun: Black Legend remains uncertain. The blatant similarities raise the possibility of a copyright infringement lawsuit from Game Science, potentially leading to the game's removal from the platform.

The game's description reads: "Embark on an epic journey to the West. Play as the immortal Wukong, the legendary Monkey King, fighting for order amidst chaos, powerful monsters, and deadly dangers. Explore a story inspired by Chinese mythology, featuring intense battles, breathtaking locations, and legendary enemies." This description mirrors the premise and tone of Black Myth: Wukong.

In contrast, Black Myth: Wukong, from a small Chinese studio, unexpectedly achieved phenomenal success, topping Steam charts. Its popularity stems from its impressive level of detail, engaging gameplay, and challenging yet accessible combat system—a blend of Souls-like mechanics and intuitive controls. The combat is visually stunning, characterized by fluid animations. The game's immersive setting and artistic direction are its greatest strengths, transporting players into a captivating fantasy world with memorable character designs. Many gamers believe Black Myth: Wukong deserved a "Game of the Year 2024" nomination at The Game Awards.
