Terminologies in Phỏm Ta La

• Phom: A set of three or more cards of the same suit with consecutive values or three cards of the same value.
• Junk cards: Odd cards that do not belong to any phom.
• Ù: A player who has three phoms (no junk cards), resulting in an absolute win.
• Stomach: The remaining cards after dealing.
• Mom: Ending the game without discarding any phom.
• Take the pin: Playing a junk card on the last turn, but another player takes it.
• Send: Adding a junk card to another player's phom on the last turn. The card is not counted in the final scoring.
• Compensation: A player who takes the previous player's pin and then another player after them Ù will receive compensation. Additionally, if a player has three consecutive cards, it counts as compensation.
• Re: Transferring the played cards to another player, allowing them an additional turn.

Gameplay of Phỏm Ta La

• Each game involves 2-4 players.
• Players are dealt 9 cards each, while the dealer (or winner) receives 10 cards.
• The remaining cards form the stud, placed in the center of the table.
• Gameplay proceeds counterclockwise, starting with the player holding 10 cards.
• The first player plays a card, which the next player can take if it matches their existing cards to form a phom. If not, they draw a card from the stud.
• After taking/drawing cards, the player plays a card, and the process continues.
• The game ends when a player Ùs. If no one Ùs, the game ends after four turns, and junk card points are calculated to determine the winner.
• On the last turn, players must play all their phoms, send any cards to other players' phoms, and then play their final junk card.

Scoring in Phỏm Ta La

If no one Ùs, points for junk cards are calculated as follows:

• The player with the lowest score wins.
• Ace, Jack, Queen, King are valued as 1, 11, 12, 13 respectively. Other cards retain their face value.
• In case of a tie, the player who discarded their cards first wins.

• Final scores are calculated as follows:

  • First place: +6 points
  • Second place: -1 point
  • Third place: -2 points
  • Last place: -3 points
  • Player who takes the pin: -4 points
  • Player who gets the pin: +4 points
  • Buzzing player: +15 points (each other player loses 5 points)
  • Burned/burnt player: loses 4 points to the winner
