NetEase's Marvel Rivals mistakenly bans innocent players. The developer, NetEase, issued an apology for wrongly banning a significant number of players who were using compatibility layer programs like those for Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck. These players were incorrectly flagged as cheaters during a crackdown on actual cheaters. The bans have since been lifted.
NetEase's anti-cheat system mistakenly identified compatibility layers as cheating software. This is not the first instance of Proton (a SteamOS compatibility layer) triggering anti-cheat systems. Players who experienced wrongful bans were advised to appeal via in-game support or Discord.
Separately, players are requesting the implementation of character bans across all ranks. Currently, this feature is only available in Diamond rank and above. Many players, particularly those in Platinum rank, feel that the absence of character bans creates an unfair advantage for some players and limits strategic options. They argue that extending the ban system to lower ranks would improve gameplay balance and provide valuable learning opportunities for newer players. NetEase has yet to publicly respond to this feedback.
