Marvel Comics' flagship Star Wars series is set for a May 2025 relaunch. The new series, following the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will depict Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa's efforts to establish the New Republic and restore order to a galaxy in turmoil.

Alex Segura, author of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this latest Star Wars volume. Veteran Star Wars illustrator Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) brings the story to life, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the debut issue.

Segura and Noto's Star Wars unfolds approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, after the final major conflict between the Empire and Rebel Alliance at Jakku. This optimistic new era sees the New Republic striving for galactic dominance. However, Luke and his companions face emerging threats from opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other antagonists exploiting the power vacuum.

"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can propel ourselves into a fresh, uncharted era, introducing new galactic perils, enemies, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to confront," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "These narratives will be action-packed, featuring the character-driven moments Star Wars fans anticipate, presenting twists on the familiar galaxy, ensuring accessibility for new readers. We're incredibly excited."

Noto added, "Alex is a phenomenal writer, crafting compelling storylines and new characters for this series, and I'm delighted to bring them to life! It's also been exhilarating to portray the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV counterparts. I get to create fresh interpretations while drawing inspiration from the actors of the 80s to maintain the look and feel of this timeline."

Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.

This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic. February sees the release of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey following The Last Jedi.
