Marvel Rivals players welcomed Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman during their debut weekend in Season 1 (January 10th, 2025), but Reed Richards' reception has been…unique. The stretchy scientist, a new Duelist-class hero, uses his elastic abilities in creative ways, both offensively against single or multiple enemies and defensively, expanding his body to absorb attacks. While players are still mastering his optimal use, his goofy animations have become a major source of amusement.
His ability to contort his body has fueled numerous memes, drawing comparisons to Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece. This has even inspired the modding community to create custom One Piece skins, despite NetEase's recent crackdown on modding. His rubbery physique, particularly his "Reflexive Rubber" ability (which sees him inflate to refrigerator-sized proportions), has proven particularly meme-worthy. The sheer silliness of his transformations has resonated with players, with one Reddit user stating, "Ngl I think Mr. Fantastic's design encapsulates everything great about this game. He's stupid and silly and cheesy and the game just lets him be that and is better for it." Several Twitter users (@BOOMERANG_117, @nerd_different) have also contributed to the online hilarity, creating fan art depicting humorous variations of the character, including a beardless Mister Fantastic.
While his long-term popularity remains to be seen, Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman have undeniably made a splash. The arrival of The Thing and Human Torch in the latter half of Season 1 is highly anticipated, promising more Fantastic Four fun (and potentially, more memes).
