Sony's PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures are teaming up to bring the popular video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen, as announced at CES 2025.
Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, made the exciting announcement, stating, "We're thrilled to confirm that we've commenced development on a film adaptation of our incredibly successful game, Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space combat sequences on the silver screen.
Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2 is a captivating shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. The game achieved remarkable success, becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios title ever, with 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original game.
Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures—the same studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie.
Qizilbash offered a sneak peek into the Horizon Zero Dawn project: "We're in the early stages of production for the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences: this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic portrayal."
