Stellar Mercenaries has just unleashed its latest update, the Jupiter Expansion, dramatically expanding the game's universe and doubling its content. If you're new to the scene, Stellar Mercenaries is an adrenaline-pumping vertical-scrolling action arcade space shooter where you engage in procedurally generated missions, tailor your ships and weaponry, and strive to become the most notorious mercenary across the solar system.
The expansion transforms Jupiter and its moons into dynamic battlegrounds. Each moon presents unique challenges: Ganymede's barren wastelands, Io's volcanic terrain, and Europa's treacherous icy surfaces. Jupiter itself is teeming with fierce storms, adding to the intensity of the gameplay.
Two new factions join the fray—the formidable Jovian Empire, aiming to assert control over the region, and the unruly Pirate Council, a coalition of outlaws. The expansion enriches the game with 50 new missions, ranging from hyperspace hunting to piracy, escort duties, and even train defense operations.
Players can now command six new ships: the Raider, Goblin, Mako, Boxer, Lightning, and Skybreaker. The arsenal expands with new weapons such as the Hyper Velocity Mortar, Plasma Seeker, EMP Rockets, Mauler Cannon, Electron Beam, and Neutron Beam.
The update also introduces Tier 4 shields and armor, enhancing your defensive capabilities. New hazards like asteroid fields, elite enemy squadrons, and the daunting Pacifier add layers of complexity to your missions. Enemies have evolved too, with new classes such as the Nightmare, Riot, and Warhawk, making encounters more challenging.
Complementing the action, the Jupiter Expansion includes 14 new music tracks and a fresh side missions system, providing even more depth to your mercenary adventures.
