The future of Dead Space 4 remains uncertain, potentially indefinitely delayed or cancelled. In a YouTube interview with Dan Allen Gaming, Glen Schofield, along with developers Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins, confirmed EA's rejection of their proposal for a fourth installment.
The discussion arose when Stone recounted his son's enthusiasm for the Dead Space remake, prompting a wish for a sequel. The team revealed their attempt to pitch Dead Space 4 to EA earlier this year, only to be met with immediate disinterest. Schofield explained, "We didn’t go too deep. They just said ‘We’re not interested right now, we appreciate it blah blah blah’ and we know who to talk to, so we didn’t go take it any further." They acknowledged EA's data-driven approach to game development. Stone further commented on the current industry climate, noting a reluctance to take risks on established franchises.
Despite the positive reception of the recent Dead Space remake (an 89 Metacritic score and "Very Positive" Steam reviews), EA's apparent risk aversion may be a factor in their decision. Schofield reiterated EA's focus on proven profitability.
However, the developers remain hopeful for a future Dead Space 4. Stone expressed optimism, stating, "Maybe one day, I think we’d all love to do it," a sentiment echoed by his colleagues. They possess fresh ideas and are eager to revisit the project, though their current commitments with separate projects prevent immediate action. While no longer working together at the same studio, their shared ambition for a new Dead Space game persists, leaving the possibility of a future revival open.
