The Dungeon faction, synonymous with the Warlocks' faction, has consistently been a beloved element within the Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era universe. As we first ventured into the realm of Jadame, we encountered creatures intrinsically linked to the Dungeon faction, each with their own territorial domains on the continent. This connection allowed developers to weave a faction that respects its deep-rooted traditions while simultaneously introducing innovative concepts.

If we were to encapsulate the essence of the Dungeon faction throughout the series in two words, "power" and "outcasts" would be most fitting. By revisiting the world of Enroth, we have the opportunity to reimagine these powerful warlocks, drawing inspiration from Jadame's lore. Specifically, Might and Magic VIII's Alvaric Pact has played a pivotal role in redefining the Dungeon faction.

Creatures once regarded as mere monsters now form alliances with red-skinned dark elves, a group historically marginalized for their pragmatic approach. Through diplomacy, trade, and strategic pacts, these alliances have grown stronger, marking a significant departure from the faction's earlier iterations.

Throughout the Heroes series, the presence of skilled warlocks and commanding leaders has been a hallmark of the playable cities. Each game has offered a unique portrayal of these figures:

  • In Heroes I and Heroes II, the followers of Lord Alamar and King Archibald pursued power, rallying creatures that shared their ambitions under their banners.
  • In Heroes III, Nighon's warlords embraced the philosophy that strength justifies dominance, ruling from subterranean tunnels with dreams of conquering Antagarich.
  • In Heroes IV, chaotic sorcerers and thieves made their home in Axeoth's swamps, gathering rogues to stake their claim in the emerging world.
  • In parts five through seven, Ashan's dark elves allied with the Dragon-Goddess Malassa and the underworld, crafting a narrative rich with intrigue.
