Dynasty Warriors: Origins: Open World or Not?

Throughout much of its history, the *Dynasty Warriors* series has been known for its straightforward, linear hack-and-slash gameplay. However, with the release of *Dynasty Warriors 9*, the franchise ventured into the realm of open-world gaming. This shift sparked curiosity among fans about whether *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* would follow suit and adopt an open-world format.

Does Dynasty Warriors: Origins Have An Open World?

No, *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* does not feature an open world.

In recent years, the gaming industry has often equated open worlds with enhanced gaming experiences. However, this isn't always the case. A prime example is *Dynasty Warriors 9*, which was criticized for its vast, empty world that diluted the series' signature large-scale battles. The open-world mechanic seemed forced and ultimately detracted from the game's overall quality.

Given this context, fans were eager to know if *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* would continue this trend. Fortunately, the game steers clear of an open-world design. Instead, it offers an overworld for players to navigate between missions.

In *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, players explore a compact map of ancient China, moving from town to town to buy weapons and items, and rest at inns. These maps are small, allowing players to traverse them in less than a minute. While there is a fast travel option, it's hardly necessary due to the map's size. This overworld serves as a hub where players can interact with NPCs to start sidequests, find items like Pyroxene and Old Coins, engage in optional battles to increase proficiency and recruit new soldiers, and trigger cutscenes to advance the story. Although this setup is functional rather than revolutionary, it's a significant improvement over the cumbersome open world of *Dynasty Warriors 9*.

*Dynasty Warriors: Origins* is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
