Investigating vehicle collisions requires thorough data collection. The EDR "Blackbox" Scan Tool and PDF Accident Reports, powered by the CrashScan app and OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth adapter, offer a powerful solution. This system scans vehicle computer modules, including the Event Data Recorder (EDR), to retrieve crucial accident data when supported (see vehicle support below). CrashScan helps investigators identify, capture, and interpret this data, supporting insurance claim validation and providing key insights into liability.
The CrashScan app provides comprehensive contextual accident reports. These reports detail impact severity, orientation (front, rear, or side), and offer valuable contextual information such as accident severity (minor, moderate, or severe), EDR trigger thresholds, 5 seconds of pre-crash data (speed, brake and accelerator pedal use, steering), occupant count, seatbelt status, estimated repair costs, likelihood of structural damage, injury risk thresholds (including whiplash and duration), and typical g-forces for comparison. Injury risk algorithms utilize stored acceleration values, scientific literature, and databases like the National Automotive Sampling System (NASS).
Over 3000 unique year/make/model vehicles are supported internationally. Check compatibility here: https://collisionsciences.ca/reports/check_support/

Canada: Currently, no specific legislation governs EDR data; it's considered diagnostic and non-private. However, best practices encourage insurer consent.
United States: The federal Driver Privacy Act of 2015 and statutes in seventeen states (Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington) regulate EDR data access. Generally, owner or policyholder consent is required for data retrieval, with certain exceptions.
By downloading the CrashScan app, you consent to its installation, future updates, and data collection as outlined in our privacy statement. You can withdraw consent at any time by uninstalling the app. The app may communicate with Collision Science's servers for functionality and usage metrics, affect app-related preferences or data, and collect information.
