This guide explores the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, explaining its mechanics, counters, and how to build a deck around it.
Paralyze immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for a turn, preventing attacks and retreats. It automatically clears after the opponent's next Checkup phase.
Both Paralyze and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyze resolves automatically, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific card effects for recovery.
Unlike the physical TCG, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently lacks Trainer cards to directly counter Paralyze. The core effect remains the same: one turn of inaction.
Currently, only Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno in the Genetic Apex expansion can inflict Paralyze, each requiring a successful coin flip.
Four methods exist:
Paralyze alone isn't a strong deck archetype. Combining it with Asleep, such as using Articuno & Frosmoth, creates a more effective strategy. This utilizes Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex for both effects.
Card | Quantity |
---|---|
Wigglypuff ex | 2 |
Jigglypuff | 2 |
Snom | 2 |
Frosmoth | 2 |
Articuno | 2 |
Misty | 2 |
Sabrina | 2 |
X Speed | 2 |
Professor's Research | 2 |
Poke Ball | 2 |
This provides a foundation for a deck leveraging both Paralyze and Asleep effects. Remember, the reliance on coin flips remains a key weakness.
