Assassin’s Creed Shadows offers a substantial main campaign estimated at 30-40 hours of gameplay, with the possibility of a New Game+ mode in future updates. Dive deeper into the game's vision and explore the detailed Hideout experience.
Prepare for an immersive journey! Creative Director Jonathan Dumont confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows (AC Shadows) boasts a main campaign clocking in at approximately 30-40 hours. This substantial playtime is complemented by over 80 hours of engaging side content. Furthermore, the development team is actively considering a New Game+ mode and other additions based on player feedback, addressing a common request following the absence of this feature in AC Valhalla.
Dumont highlighted key features including dynamic weather and seasonal changes, innovative gameplay mechanics, a significantly expanded and customizable hideout, and a compelling Animus storyline that connects to future Assassin’s Creed titles.
The team behind AC Shadows harbored a long-held ambition to create a Japanese-themed Assassin’s Creed game. The unique setting demanded a level of environmental interaction only now achievable with current technology, coupled with a compelling narrative. Drawing inspiration from classic Japanese films like 13 Assassins, Sekigahara, Zatoichi, and Kurosawa’s works, the team has infused their own distinct Assassin’s Creed style. The team acknowledges online discussions surrounding the game and strives to address constructive criticism.
Despite controversy, the focus remains on delivering a high-quality experience and showcasing their dedication to Japanese fans.
On March 5th, 2025, AC Shadows’ official website featured an in-depth look at the Hideout. Nestled within the secret valley of Izumi Settsu province, this serves as the player’s operational base, a hub for Brotherhood development.
Systems Associate Director, Dany, described the Hideout as “pretty ambitious.” Building upon previous iterations (fortresses, villas, etc.), the team aimed for unprecedented freedom, offering players an entire acre of land to personalize. Buildings, pavilions, pathways, flora, and fauna are all customizable, allowing players to truly make the Hideout their own. Customization options progressively unlock throughout the adventure, reflecting the player's journey.
The Hideout houses various characters who aid the player, each with their own unique backstories and challenges. Character placement influences their activities within the Hideout; fighters might frequent the Dojo, while others enjoy sake in the Zashiki. This dynamic placement fosters new dialogue interactions, breathing life into the Hideout and strengthening the bonds between allies. The collaborative effort of writers from four different studios resulted in numerous engaging character moments, making the Hideout feel like the vibrant heart of the Brotherhood.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows promises an authentic Japanese experience, infused with the signature Assassin’s Creed style. The game launches March 20th, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with the latest news via [link to article].
